Creating a virtual gallery to broaden geographical reach
National Gallery of Australia
Asian – Australian artistic exchange
In the wake of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, then-prime minister Bob Hawke allowed 42,000 visiting Chinese students to remain permanently in Australia. Spurred by this moment in time, Infinite conversations considers the creative practice of artists from mainland China and Hong Kong who settled in Australia after 1989.
Singing Bowl Media was commissioned by NGA to create a virtual second gallery to help broaden the physical galleries temporal and geographical reach. This gallery is embedded with videos from some of the participating artists talking about their work as well as information for the curators. It has been an invaluable resource for NGA's education program.
